The Allied powers; Great Britain, France, Russia, accused Turkey of crimes against humanity. Turkey said it would punish all the perpetrators at the Treaty of Sevres. Then in the 1920's the Turkish Nationalists, lead by Mustafa Kemal, killed of and destroyed the last of the 3000 year old Armenian republic.
After 1923, the Allied powers abandoned the Armenians during the Treaty of Lausanne when Turkey promised again to take responsibility of the perpetrators. Unlike last time, Turkey did not go kill more Armenians, because there were no more to kill. |
