Celal Bey was a Turkish government official, who refused to participate in the massacres and plunders. His ignorance in Turkey being a heroic official who refused to follow government orders and instead tried to save and protect the Armenians. Even though Celal could loose his job or life as a consequence for his actions he did them anyway. Celal Bey was the governor of Konya, a hub for the Armenian deportation routes from north and west Anatolian to the Syria desert, and a vast central Anatolian province. Since he was a hub for the Armenian deportation routes he knew the outcome that every Armenian would go through on these routes. Celal tried to convince the Ittihat ve Terakki leaders that there was no resistance of Armenians in Anatolia, nor Aleppo, and that there was no need for mass Armenian deportation. Basically Celal Bey was trying to save the Armenians but his plan failed because one of his subordinates in Marash executed and arrested Armenians showing their resistance, Then Celal was removed from his governor spot in Aleppo and then Governor of Konya. When the Istanbul ordered Celal to deport Armenians from Konya he refused, saving thousands of Armenian lives. He even managed to save other Armenian lives that were deported to Konya. After saving all the Armenians he got removed from his post and on October 1915 he saved as many men, women, and children as he could out of a flowing river. The ones he saved he pulled onto shore and the ones he didn't floated to their death. Overall Celal was a hero that saved many Armenian lives.
